Sunsets at the vineyard hit different

Moab Sunset at Spanish Valley Vineyard

There are a lot of places to catch a sunset in Moab. The canyon rims. The overlooks. The river banks. But if you want to slow down, sit among the vines, and let the sky put on a show while someone hands you a glass of wine — there's only one place to do it.

Spanish Valley Vineyard & Winery. Moab's only winery.

When 100 Degrees Becomes Perfect

Summers in Moab are intense. Temperatures regularly push past 100°F, which means most outdoor activity migrates to the bookends of the day — early morning hikes and late afternoon everything else. By the time the sun begins its descent behind the red rock formations of Spanish Valley, the desert exhales. The heat breaks. The light turns golden, then orange, then the kind of deep crimson that makes you stop mid-sentence.

That's exactly when the winery comes alive.

From 2 to 7 pm, our doors are open. And in the summer months, those final hours of the evening — when the temperature drops and the sky ignites — are something you simply can't replicate anywhere else in Moab.

A View That Belongs on a Postcard

Set on 6 acres in Spanish Valley, Spanish Valley Vineyard & Winery sits beneath the dramatic silhouette of the La Sal Mountains and the jagged red rock walls that define this corner of southeastern Utah. When the sun dips low, it catches those formations in a way that seems almost too vivid to be real — layers of orange, deep purple shadow, and the glow of an open desert sky stretching wide in every direction.

In the foreground: rows of grapevines. The woody trellis posts. The sandy desert soil that gives our wines their character.

It's one of the most striking views in all of Moab. And you can enjoy it from a chair, glass in hand.

The Best Thing to Do in Moab When It's Hot

If you're searching for things to do in Moab in the summer heat, the answer isn't always another trail. Sometimes the best move is to find a beautiful place, sit down, and let the evening come to you.

Here's what a sunset evening at the winery looks like:

You arrive in the late afternoon, stepping out of the heat and into the shade of our tasting area. You're welcomed with a chilled towel — a small detail that makes a big difference after a day in the Moab sun. You choose your tasting flight: red wines, white wines, or a mix of both. You settle in.

As your guide walks you through our estate-grown wines — the bold Cabernet Sauvignon, the expressive Syrah, the bright and floral Gewürztraminer — the sun begins its slow drop toward the canyon walls. By the time you're sipping a full glass of your favorite and the tasting card is covered in notes, the sky has transformed into something extraordinary.

Conversations stretch. Time slows. That's the whole point.

Estate-Grown Wines, Desert Terroir

What makes a sunset at Moab Winery different from watching one anywhere else in town is what's in your glass. Every wine we pour was grown right here in this valley — shaped by the same sandy soil, the same bold sun, and the same cool desert evenings you're sitting in right now.

Our Rieslings carry the brightness of Spanish Valley's long growing season. Our reds — the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Syrah, the fruit-forward Slickrock Red — are built on the character of this desert land. Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is disconnected from the place you're standing.

That connection between land and glass, between landscape and experience, is what makes an evening here feel so grounded.

Moab's Best-Kept Sunset Secret

Arches National Park draws millions of visitors a year. Canyonlands is breathtaking. Dead Horse Point is iconic. But the sunset from the vineyard — from inside the rows, surrounded by vines, with the canyon walls turning red and the valley going quiet — is something most people who visit Moab never discover.

It's five minutes from downtown. It's open most evenings. Walk-ins are always welcome.

If you're visiting Moab this summer, make one evening at the winery non-negotiable. Come at 5 or 6 pm. Order a tasting or just a glass. Find a seat outside. Watch the sky do what it does in Spanish Valley.

You'll understand why this photo stops people in their tracks.
